A car accident brings a �she?bear� mother and her son to the hospital. Alex Reid (Erica Durance) and Joel Goran (Daniel Gillies) discover the mother is in need of a transplant � and her son is very adamant that he be involved in the surgery. Dawn Bell (Michelle Nolden) instructs them on procedure and, before they know it, the trio are brought before an ethics panel � including one very unconvinced psychiatrist. Meanwhile, the mother�s spirit is determined to get Charlie Harris (Michael Shanks) to do her bidding, which includes stepping out of his comfort zone when console her son. Then, Charlie finds himself pulled into the ER to help Zach Miller (Benjamin Ayres) with a patient whose obsession might cost him his life. Plus, new resident Rian (Danso Gordon) and Maggie Lin (Julia Taylor Ross) search the hospital for Hope Zion�s very first �code crown,� which results in having to answer to a shaken Dawn.

Charlie and Alex try to navigate their way back as a couple, as Alex faces her first day back as a doctor at Hope Zion Hospital. It is none other than the Chief of Surgery, Dawn Bell, who will act as a "buddy colleague" during her rounds. Dawn comes to realize that she may also have some unresolved issues relating to Alex�s stabbing. Meanwhile, Charlie is visited by one of the happiest spirits he�s ever encountered. While trying to be a Good Samaritan, Joel unexpectedly finds himself in the middle of a hostage situation at a local street clinic. Psychiatrist Dr. Gavin Murphy meets a new colleague at Hope Zion, who is able to help him navigate his feelings � leading to some welcomed �enlightenment.�

More heat is added to the fire when Charlie discovers Joel has been visiting Alex on a regular basis. Meanwhile, Maggie Lin (Julia Taylor Ross) finds herself in a whirlwind of emotions triggered from the fallout of her miscarriage, and it seems every doctor has their own ideas on how to best manage her outbursts. Plus, a menacing ghost presence has Charlie on edge.

Meanwhile, Maggie Lin (Julia Taylor Ross) and her new boss, the militaristic and pragmatic Dr. Sydney Katz (Stacey Farber), treat a five-month pregnant woman who suffers an aneurysm in the hospital, which renders her brain-dead. The woman�s spirit pleads with Charlie to convince her husband to fight for the life of their son inside of her. After witnessing the couple�s parental love, Alex discovers she wants to become a mother.

Before spirit Alex can fully comprehend that she�s dying on the operating table and that Charlie really can see ghosts � she pops � waking up in a �dream� that takes her back to her childhood home in St. Catharines, Ont. A chance encounter with a lost loved one puts Alex face-to-face with a repressed memory that holds the key to her past, present and future. Meanwhile, Dawn (Michelle Nolden) manages to stitch the hole in Alex�s heart, only to be convinced by a passionate Charlie that something may still be wrong with Alex � leading the team to discover a deadly mistake that Dawn has only minutes to rectify. Joel (Daniel Gillies) is pulled to the ER to treat Alex�s assailant � and when his patient pleads to let him die � Joel�s morals as a man are tested against his ethics as a doctor.

After Dawn diagnoses her with an irregular heartbeat, Alex is supposed to be resting up � but before she gets the chance, The Great Randall returns to Hope Zion Hospital after an experimental cancer treatment gone wrong. Meanwhile, Charlie struggles with the implications of his fight with Joel, who is trying to treat a troubled mathematician.

Buried secrets come to light as Alex treats an elderly patient whose unusual symptoms have her convinced she�s living in a different era. Charlie and Joel get competitive as their patients pit their surgeons against each other. And Maggie agrees to shadow Dr. Kalfas for a surgery, but has to take the reins when complications arise.

When a traffic jam gets in the way of an organ delivery for a delicate patient, Alex races against the clock to find a replacement. Meanwhile, Joel helps a bickering, injured couple, and a Spirit pushes Charlie to his breaking point.

Meanwhile, Joel secretly helps Sonja deal with a patient of hers who�s been admitted to Hope Zion Hospital.

When Alex and Joel end up stranded in the middle of nowhere with a severely injured couple, they�re forced to use only what�s around them to stabilize the pair until paramedics arrive. Meanwhile, back at Hope Zion Hospital, Charlie must try to save the wounded leg of his former college roommate as Gavin attempts to help Shahir improve his bedside manner.

When a heat wave hits the city, Alex is appointed Trauma Team Leader as the hospital is faced with an influx of patients during a blackout. With no back-up power available, Dawn and Charlie must figure out a way to continue their surgery as Joel and Maggie attempt to keep a patient alive while stuck in an elevator.

After a young, healthy and hunky fireman dies suddenly at Hope Zion Hospital, Alex must take the stand at Hope Zion�s Morbidity and Mortality (M&M) Rounds to find out what went wrong and who is to blame. Meanwhile, Charlie deals with a nervous aspiring Nun, and Joel has to decide if he can be the man that comes through for Sonja.

Alex must become the unlikely advocate for a violent young prisoner brought in to Hope Zion Hospital, while Joel connects with a disfigured refugee and tries to convince Dr. Dana Kinney to come back to operate on him. Meanwhile, a spirit who is familiar to many Hope Zion doctors shows up in the morgue when Charlie is about to do routine procedure.

The doctors at Hope Zion Hospital are forced to deal with people from their past as Alex, Charlie and Joel take on the daunting task of operating on a malpractice lawyer known for suing every doctor in his path. Meanwhile, Zach is tested when the last person he wants to treat comes into his E.R. and a Season 1 patient returns with some difficult insight for Charlie and Alex.

Alex is trying to get her life back to normal with Charlie and at Hope Zion Hosital � but with Charlie�s head in the clouds and the pressure to find her medical niche � she�s struggling. Inspiration comes in the form of an immigrant doctor who needs Alex to save his wife�s life, and in return, helps her find her calling.

Alex must learn to stick up for herself and not be intimidated by Dawn (Charlie�s ex-wife) in order to work alongside her and perform a minimally invasive heart procedure to save a patient�s life. Meanwhile, Joel unlocks a mystery to a young girl�s disease, while getting some advice from Charlie, who is trying to figure out how to help his comatose patient come back from being a spirit. It�s a week of defying the odds at Hope Zion Hospital.

In the midst of the commotion, Alex treats a bullied teenager and deals with her own emotions about everything that�s happened in the past year. Meanwhile, Charlie is caught off guard when he realizes that he�s still able to see the spirits of deceased patients. As well, new Chief of Surgery Joel works alongside Charlie�s ex-wife Dawn to perform an intense surgery.

After a major turn of events, Alex is faced with a monumental question: is her life now changed forever? Meanwhile, Joel is in a race against time to save a young patient from rapidly advancing flesh-eating disease.

Alex and Shahir bring Charlie to the O.R. for a last resort procedure, but Charlie must first face his past before he can wake up. Meanwhile, Joel performs a risky surgery on a female jockey and Gavin crosses the line when he meets an Alzheimer's patient.

When a plane is forced to land due to a sick passenger, the patient is taken to Hope Zion where Alex performs emergency surgery and discovers that this passenger may have brought a deadly and contagious virus into the hospital.

When Joel gets cold feet in the OR, Kinney takes him with her to her hometown to help clear his head. During their field trip, a woman gets pinned underneath a truck and Joel and Kinney lead the rescue effort. Meanwhile, Charlie meets a newly deceased therapist who suspects it's an emotional block that is keeping him in his coma.

With Charlie removed from his ventilator, all he and Alex can do is wait and ask themselves: is this really it? But when a patient comes in for a routine follow-up, her new symptoms could lead Alex and Charlie to making a discovery about Charlie's coma. Meanwhile, Joel cannot operate after breaking his hand, and Maggie and Gavin deal with the aftermath of their kiss.

With Charlie's life hanging in the balance, Alex and Dawn go head-to-head over who gets to be his legal decision maker � but are forced to put personal matters aside when they scrub into a heart transplant surgery together. Charlie, meanwhile, is in no mood to talk to the heart donor � a deceased prisoner.

A routine surgical procedure goes awry when Alex�s patient, a soon-to-be-wed young woman, falls into a coma. While Alex struggles with a case that hits close to home, Joel treats a patient who does his own body modifications, and Charlie finds himself drawn to Alex�s coma patient in the spirit world. Meanwhile, a young woman comes into the E.R. with a neck injury, but it�s Hope Z�s psych resident, Gavin who knows how to help her.

When a severely injured man under the spell of hypnosis cannot remember his identity, the hypnotist who put him under is called into the hospital � where he uses his psychic ability to connect Charlie and Alex. Meanwhile, a young woman comes into the E.R. with a neck injury, but it�s Hope Z�s psych resident, Gavin who knows how to help her.

A high profile double hand replantation becomes Alex�s chance to prove to Kinney that she is still capable of being Chief Surgical Resident. In the ICU, Maggie believes a homeless man may have been misdiagnosed.

A sleep-deprived Alex takes on a night shift in the ER where an all-star hockey enforcer may be skating full-speed towards an early death. Meanwhile, Charlie meets a suburban punk who is facing the biggest fight of his life.

After Charlie�s hand moved in the last episode, Alex has high hopes for his recovery, while she treats a patient who already has multiple surgeries under his belt. Meanwhile, Charlie coaches a young man killed in a roofing accident who has unfinished business with his severely injured brother.

Alex treats a young boy with mysterious symptoms while dealing with the arrival of Charlie's ex-wife. Elsewhere in the hospital, Joel Goran and Maggie Lin try to help a patient who refuses life-saving treatment on religious grounds.

As the action unfolds, comatose Dr. Harris explores the hospital halls in �spirit� form, not sure if he's a ghost or a figment of his own imagination. Reid, along with her fellow doctors, press on to save his life and those of their other patients, as they deal with the complicated and courageous decisions that are made in their daily struggle to keep hope alive.
